Wellbeing
Welcome to the Wellbeing section of our school's website. At The Mill Primary Academy, we recognise the importance of underpinning academic growth by nurturing the holistic well-being of our students.
This section provides resources, support, and guidance to help our students and their families, and to promote positive mental health practices amongst our school community.
Navigating the challenges of growing up can sometimes be overwhelming. We are committed to fostering a supportive environment where students feel empowered to prioritise their wellbeing and seek assistance when needed. It is very important that if you have any worries or concerns about your safety, mental health or wellbeing you talk to a member of staff.
In collaboration with students, parents, staff and mental health professionals, we have curated a range of resources to signpost you to. Whether you're looking for information on coping strategies, stress management techniques during exams, or seeking support for yourself or a friend, you'll find valuable insights and practical tools to navigate the ups and downs of life.
Our goal is to promote a culture of open dialogue surrounding mental health, reducing stigma, and creating a sense of belonging within our school community.
We're proud to offer ELSA at The Mill Primary Academy to our pupils who need a short-term or longer-term intervention for emotional support.
What is ELSA?
ELSA is a targeted emotional literacy intervention designed to support children who may be experiencing a wide range of social and emotional difficulties. This may include anxiety, friendship problems, anger and low self-esteem.
ELSA is a personalised intervention delivered over a period of between 8 and 10 sessions lasting 30 minutes with 1 to 2 sessions per week. The sessions will focus on the particular area of difficulty and allow the children to learn skills and strategies to help them.
It is delivered by Mrs Lakeman who has been specifically trained in this area and who receives ongoing professional supervision.
Wellbeing Ambassadors
The Wellbeing Ambassadors are a group of children from Years 5 and 6 who have volunteered themselves to offer peer support across the school. They received training in mental health and learn strategies and skills to enhance both their well being and others.
The children wear distinctive burgundy jumpers and a lanyard. They can often be found during lunch breaks offering help and advice to children across the school.
